Ayurveda is the world's oldest science & traditional healing system to mankind. As part of VEDIC science, Ayurveda originated from the VEDIC period about 5000 years ago. It is regarded as the 5th VEDA or rather an' ATHARVEDA Upveda.' The term Ayurved consists of 2 components ' Ayu,' meaning life &' VEDA' means understanding or science, so Ayurveda is life science, i.e. SCIENCE OF LIFE. Ayurved is not just a medicine system, but a fundamental philosophy of life.
Basic Principles of Ayurveda
According to Ayurvedic philosophy, all living andnon-living beings consist of five fundamental components in different proportions: AKASH (Ether), VAYU (Air), AGNI (Fire), JAL (Water), PRITHVI (Earth), and even the human body consists of those components known collectively as PANCHTATVA or PANCH MAHA BHUTAS. Each of which consists of PANCHBUTAS in turn. Physiologically, the multiple particular functions in the body are accountable for these three doshas VATA, PITTA & KAFA.
VATA is liable for all voluntary and involuntary human body movements PITTA is liable for all digestive and metabolic functions. KAFA offers the body tissue with static energy (Strength). It also offers at the multiple points lubricants. It provides body tissue assistance & bulk.
When these DOSHAS function in a balanced state it is health & when they lose their equilibrium and are vitiated by different inner and external variables. In the human body, they generate diverse illnesses. Ayurvedic therapy of any disease is therefore intended to restore the balance of these three doshas.
